Little Lotus Project – Day Three

Hey guys! So we are now at the end of day three of the Little Lotus Project and wow is all I can say. Thirteen talented creatives from around the world and across a range of different fields have joined forces to collaborate on a truly unique and inspiring project. I feel beyond grateful to be here right now and so so thankful to everyone that has supported me and all the other artists to get us this far!

We all arrived in one piece on Sunday evening and pretty much dove straight into it, mapping out our game plan for what exactly we will be doing over the next two weeks. The next day was an early rise and shine and we hit the rode by bicycle – visiting the two schools we will be working at, meeting some of the adorable and super enthusiastic kids we get to collaborate with, checking out the local art supply stores and brainstorming in more detail about what the team of artists want to do with the spaces we have.

So today marks the end of day three and we are definitely in full swing. For the first week of this project we will be working at SAW, doing art classes, painting a massive mural around the playground and making customized robot toys. Artists Meghan Geliza, Drypnz, Ritzy Periwinkle, Sheryo and Yok are working on the large mural that wraps around the length of the playground. While they are busy painting murals, Aaron Woes Martin aka Angry Woebots and J-ryu are working with an older group of kids on the customized mini robots – seriously so awesome!

Today while the team of artists were busy picking out art supplies and getting started with their groups of kids, I got started on whitewashing the massive wall we have to paint and made a few new friends along the way that helped me out. So much fun! The artists now have the next three days to make the magic happen. Really looking forward to seeing some color added to the walls tomorrow and checking up on the progress of these robots. Nothing but smiles all around for sure.

To be honest I feel a bit like a sponge at the moment. It’s one thing to study about sustainability and charity work at University but definitely much more challenging to actually find the answers to solve the hardships faced by people that are struggling to maintain the necessities required for survival day by day. The things we take for granted like food, clean drinking water and shelter. What has been really exciting and even more so, motivating about this project is to see just how far our money can spread in this country and just how big of a difference we can make to the lives of hundreds of children, their families and their care takers in such a short period of time. Big ups to the Spinning Top Charity and the Little Lotus Project – such a special thing to be apart of!

What Gorgeous photos of the children :-) Why is it that these children who have so little always seem to smile and look happy…whilst there are children who have so much and they can look so miserable?
