Meghan Geliza’s Solo Exhibition

On the 28th of April the beautiful and talented Miss Meghan Geliza embarked on her first ever solo show, Adieu False Heart. I had the pleasure of working with this little lady on organizing her big night. Illustrious burlesque, melodies from a serene harpist and the colourful large-scale explosions on canvas provided some serious visual stimuli for all those that attended last Thursdays opening. Tales of unapologetic love, lust and the triumphs and perils that such emotions provoke effortlessly danced across each of the four large-scale wood panels. It was refreshing to see the familiar feelings from our everyday expressed in such a unique and articulate way.

Fellow artists, friends and fans, along with art spectators and photographers came together to celebrate and engage with Geliza’s surreal works. It was refreshing to see so much thoughtful conversation stimulated by this artists works. Eruptions of bright colours, sharp lines, animal symbolism and raw powerful emotion saturated Geliza’s canvas. Here are some photographs from the opening of Adieu False Heart.

Chatting with Geliza after the show, she had a few words of gratitude.
“The whole process of going through this exhibit, since I started on this 6 months ago – it’s been a wicked ride. All that introspection, and then pouring all my energy on to this, all the people I’ve met too and have become good friends with because of this show, people rooting for me to do well and then my work being received like this – got nothing but gratitude for sure.”
Geliza’s exhibition is on until the 11th of May, so do check out her works in person if you missed the opening night at Te Karanga Gallery on K Road. The pictures just don’t do the small details of her paintings justice!
Special thanks go out to the talented young harpist Chloe-Rose and burlesque extraordinaire Eve Gordon for their unique contribution to the evening.
